Idris Elba envisions a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film with Keanu Reeves
Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, recently expressed his strong desire for a live-action adaptation of the game, featuring himself and Keanu Reeves. He shared this exciting prospect during an interview with ScreenRant, promoting his role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he also shares the screen with Reeves).
Elba enthusiastically stated that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film starring himself and Reeves would be incredible, believing their characters would create a powerful on-screen dynamic. "I think if any film could do a live-action rendition, it could be [Cyberpunk 2077], and I think his character and my character together would be, ‘Whoa.’ So, let's speak that into existence," he said.
In the game, Reeves portrays the iconic Johnny Silverhand, while Elba plays Solomon Reed in the Phantom Liberty expansion. This isn't just wishful thinking; Variety reported in October 2023 that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is underway, with CD Projekt Red collaborating with Anonymous Content. While details remain scarce, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the live-action Witcher series suggests a Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation is a strong possibility.
Beyond the live-action prospect, the Cyberpunk franchise continues to expand. A prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched, focusing on Rebecca and Pilar before joining Maine’s crew. A Blu-ray release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is also planned for 2025, and a new animated series is in the works.
