The developers of The Witcher 3 planned to include Triss's wedding in the game

In The Witcher 3's "Ashen Marriage" quest, set in Novigrad, Geralt assists Triss Merigold and her seemingly charming suitor, Castello, in their whirlwind romance and impending nuptials. His tasks range from monster extermination in the city canals to procuring celebratory beverages and selecting a wedding gift for Triss.

The gift selection proves surprisingly impactful, with a memory rose (a callback to The Witcher 2) eliciting a powerful emotional response from Triss, unlike more mundane presents.

However, this seemingly straightforward wedding preparation takes an unexpected turn. Dijkstra's revelation of Castello's unsettling connections to witch hunters throws a wrench into the proceedings. It emerges that Castello is acting under duress, blackmailed by the hunters who threaten to expose a secret concerning his daughter from a previous marriage.

Geralt faces the crucial decision of revealing this truth, either privately to Triss or alongside Castello. Regardless of his approach, the wedding is inevitably called off. Triss's reaction varies, ranging from disappointment in her fiancé to gratitude for his honesty, ultimately concluding that the marriage was ill-considered and premature.

This unexpected plot development presented a missed opportunity to significantly deepen Geralt and Triss's relationship and further develop the supporting characters involved.
