Following the recent announcement of 26 additional cast members for the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. have hinted that the cast reveal isn't over yet. In a lengthy livestream, Marvel unveiled the initial cast list alongside the commencement of production, confirming that Robert Downey Jr. will portray Doctor Doom after his iconic role as Iron Man.
Among the notable names, Channing Tatum is set to reprise his role as the beloved X-Men character Gambit. You can find the complete cast list here.
However, fans quickly noticed some glaring absences from the lineup. Key Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) characters such as Tom Holland's Spider-Man, Chris Evans' Captain America, and other fan favorites like Hulk, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, and Rhodey are missing. On the X-Men front, there's no sign of Deadpool, Wolverine, Storm, or Jean Grey.
The absence of these beloved characters sparked disappointment among fans, but hope remains. In an Instagram post, Robert Downey Jr. teased that there's more to come, suggesting that the cast announcements are far from complete. He remarked, "That’s what u call a deep bench of talent. Actually it’s more like a row, but an extra long one… That must be it.. right?”

Marvel responded in the comments, stating, "there's always room for more." The Russo Brothers, who are directing the film, added, "It’s time…", further fueling speculation about additional cast announcements.
As the excitement builds, fans are left wondering who else might join the fray in Avengers: Doomsday. Share your thoughts and predictions in the comments below.
The Russo Brothers have previously described Avengers 5 and 6 as a "new beginning" that will set the stage for Phase 7 of the MCU. Joe Russo emphasized their focus on creating well-rounded villains, stating, "The only thing I’ll say about the movie is this: we love villains who think they’re the heroes of their own stories. That’s when they become three-dimensional and they become more interesting. When you have an actor like Robert Downey, you have to create a three-dimensional, well-shaped character for the audience. That’s where a lot of our focus is going."
Avengers: Doomsday is slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by Secret Wars in May 2027. Leading up to these releases, Thunderbolts* is scheduled for May 2025, the TV series Ironheart premieres in June, and Phase 6 will kick off with The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.
Additionally, Marvel Studios has added three untitled movie projects to its 2028 release schedule: February 18, 2028; May 5, 2028; and November 10, 2028. Speculation is rife that one of these projects could be an X-Men film, given the growing integration of the X-Men into the MCU.
