Marvel Unveils New Star Wars Series on New Republic

By RyanApr 20,2025

In an exciting development for Star Wars fans, Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025. This new series will be positioned in the timeline following the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, focusing on the efforts of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa to establish the New Republic and bring stability to a galaxy in turmoil.

Penned by Alex Segura, who previously crafted the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, this volume promises to delve deeper into the post-Return of the Jedi era. The series will feature illustrations by the seasoned Star Wars artist Phil Noto, known for his work on Star Wars: Poe Dameron. Both Noto and Leinil Yu will contribute to the cover art for the debut issue.

Set approximately two years after the events of Return of the Jedi, Segura and Noto's Star Wars series will explore the New Republic's attempts to solidify its position as the dominant power in the galaxy. Amidst this hopeful period, our heroes will confront new adversaries including pirates, thieves, and other opportunists eager to exploit the existing power vacuum.

“Now that we've put the period at the end of the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can speed ahead into a new, uncharted era, with some new galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to grapple with, blending the familiar with the new and shocking,” Segura shared with StarWars.com. “These stories will be packed with action and the character moments Star Wars fans have come to expect, featuring twists on the galaxy and landscape we know, with an eye toward making sure people can jump in easily and with any issue. We can't wait."

Noto expressed his enthusiasm about the project, stating, “Alex is an amazing writer and has come up with some great storylines and new characters for this series and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to bring them to life on the page! It’s also been exciting to draw the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era because there’s no existing film or TV versions of them. I get to create new looks for them while also having reference of the actors from the 80s to help sell the look of this timeline.”

Mark your calendars for May 7, 2025, as Star Wars #1 will be released in perfect alignment with Star Wars Day celebrations.
