NieR: Automata offers a wide array of weapons across various types, allowing players to experiment throughout multiple playthroughs. Each weapon boasts multiple upgrade levels, extending their usefulness and enabling players to utilize most weapons throughout the entire game if desired.
Weapon upgrades are accessible at any time at the Resistance Camp, but require specific resources. One crucial material, Beast Hides, isn't readily obtained; this guide explains how to acquire and farm them efficiently.
Obtaining Beast Hides in NieR: Automata
Beast Hides are potential drops from wildlife like moose and boar. These animals appear randomly in specific map areas, generally avoiding players and nearby robots. Their white icons on the mini-map distinguish them from the black icons of machines. Farming wildlife isn't straightforward, as their spawn rate is lower than machines, requiring strategic searching.
Moose and boar are exclusive to the ruined city and forest zones. Their behavior (fleeing or attacking) depends on your level relative to theirs; higher-level animals might become aggressive even at a distance. Wildlife possesses substantial health, making early-game encounters challenging, especially against animals near or above your level.
Animal Bait can lure wildlife closer, simplifying the hunting process.
Because animals don't respawn continuously during the main storyline, hunting requires exploration and searching for new spawns. Wildlife and machine respawns share similar conditions:
- Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
- Traveling a sufficient distance respawns enemies and wildlife in previously visited areas.
- Triggering story events can also respawn nearby enemies and wildlife.
There's no guaranteed, efficient Beast Hide farming method. Consistently eliminating encountered wildlife in forest and city ruins usually provides sufficient hides. The drop rate is reasonably high, preventing the need for excessive stockpiling beyond immediate weapon upgrade needs.
