Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team Joins Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack
Get ready for another classic Pokémon adventure! Nintendo announced that Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team will be added to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service on August 9th. This beloved Game Boy Advance title, originally released in 2006, lets players experience a unique roguelike journey where they transform into a Pokémon and explore dungeons to solve a mysterious transformation.
This addition expands the already impressive library of classic games available through the Expansion Pack, which also includes titles from the Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis libraries. However, the lack of mainline Pokémon games on the service continues to be a point of discussion among fans.
The Call for Mainline Pokémon Games
While fans appreciate the addition of Red Rescue Team, many continue to express their desire for core series titles like Pokémon Red and Blue to be included in the Expansion Pack. Speculation regarding this absence ranges from potential challenges with N64 Transfer Pak compatibility and Nintendo Switch Online infrastructure, to complexities related to the Pokémon Home app integration. The fact that Nintendo doesn't fully own the Pokémon Home app might introduce contractual obstacles.
Nintendo Switch Online: Mega Multiplayer Festival and More
Beyond the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon announcement, Nintendo revealed a special offer for Nintendo Switch Online resubscribers. As part of the Mega Multiplayer Festival (running until September 8th), purchasing a 12-month subscription earns you an extra two months free! Additional bonuses include increased Gold Points on game purchases (August 5th-18th) and free multiplayer game trials (August 19th-25th). Specific trial games will be announced soon. A Nintendo Mega Multiplayer game sale will follow (August 26th-September 8th, 2024).
