It's also about capturing the beauty of the era through legendary Sumi-E paintings. Legendary Sumi-E are unique ancient paintings of animals that you can create with either Naoe or Yasuke while exploring the wilds. When you're close to a potential subject, a painting icon will appear on your compass and map. To capture these moments, crouch and sneak up on your target. Once you're near, hold L2/LT to complete the painting. However, unlike regular Sumi-E, legendary ones don't show up on the map, making them trickier to find. There are five legendary Sumi-E in the game, and their availability depends on the season.
