Metaphor: ReFantazio features eight playable characters, including the protagonist. While Gallica is present from the start, her combat role is limited. The remaining seven party members join at specific points in the story. Note: This guide contains minor story spoilers regarding party member recruitment.
Party Member Recruitment Timeline:
Each party member unlocks a unique Archetype; once unlocked, any party member can utilize it. Some early members are initially AI-controlled before gaining full control.

Strohl (Warrior): Joins on June 5th during the Border Fort events. Awakens and becomes fully controllable on June 6th at the Nord Mines.

Grius: Joins after the Border Fort events, but is battle-ready on June 6th after Strohl's awakening. Grius doesn't undergo the same Archetype awakening as other characters.

Hulkenberg (Knight): Begins interacting with the party on June 10th. Fully joins and awakens her Archetype during the boss fight on June 11th.

Heismay (Thief): His awakening and party recruitment occur on July 4th within Martira's main dungeon.

Junah (Masked Dancer): Awakens and joins the party on August 13th.

Eupha (Summoner): Eupha's recruitment is flexible. Completing the Dragon Temple Dungeon between August 19th and September 4th will add her to the party for the final boss fight. Her Bond quest becomes available after this period.

Basilio (Berserker): Awakens and joins during the Saint's Day events on September 11th. He's usable in combat the following day.
