In the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid, securing your shelter is paramount. While finding a safe haven is relatively straightforward, maintaining its security against the relentless undead hordes presents a significant challenge. This guide focuses on a fundamental yet effective defense mechanism: barricading windows.
Barricading Windows: A Step-by-Step Guide
To effectively barricade a window, you'll need three essential items: a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you've gathered these supplies, simply right-click on the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank, reinforcing the window frame. Each window can withstand up to four planks for maximum protection.
Locating Necessary Supplies
Hammers and nails are typically found in locations you'd expect – toolboxes, garages, sheds, closets, and similar areas. Wooden planks are most commonly found at construction sites. In a pinch, you can dismantle wooden furniture (shelves, chairs, etc.) to obtain planks. Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command to spawn items directly.
The effectiveness of barricaded windows is undeniable. Zombies will struggle significantly more to breach a fortified window compared to an unprotected one. The more planks you install, the greater the resistance. To remove planks, right-click on them and select "Remove." Note that you'll need a claw hammer or crowbar to accomplish this.
Limitations and Alternatives
While larger furniture items might seem like a viable option, they unfortunately prove ineffective. Players and zombies will pass right through them, rendering them useless as defenses. However, moving furniture remains a useful skill for interior design purposes.
For superior protection, consider crafting metal bar or sheet barricades. However, this requires a sufficient level of Metalworking skill.
