Shovel Knight: Dungeon Departs Netflix; Devs Seek Mobile Future

By EmeryJan 20,2025

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon is leaving Netflix Games. Developer Yacht Club Games announced the news, stating they are exploring future options for the game. It will remain available on Steam, Switch, and PlayStation 4.

This follows the recent positive news of Squid Game: Unleashed becoming free-to-play. While Yacht Club confirmed the game's departure from Netflix, they also mentioned investigating alternative distribution methods. A standalone mobile release is a strong possibility, though a timeframe remains unclear.

ytGame Removal Highlights Subscription Service Risks

The removal highlights a key risk inherent in subscription gaming services: reduced player ownership. Players are at the mercy of developers to ensure the game's future availability after removal. Yacht Club Games likely has several options, provided there are no contractual restrictions post-Netflix. We anticipate potential re-release possibilities in 2025.

For now, numerous other games are available. Check out our top five new mobile games list for some alternatives!
