Elden Ring: Nightreign removes the in-game messaging feature, a significant departure from previous FromSoftware titles. Project director Junya Ishizaki explained this decision in a recent interview, citing the game's shorter play sessions. With each Nightreign session lasting approximately forty minutes, there's insufficient time for players to leave or read messages effectively.
"Due to the roughly forty-minute session length, there isn't enough time to send or read messages, so we removed the feature," Ishizaki stated.
This change is noteworthy, given the prominent role of player messages in enhancing the experience of past FromSoftware games. However, the development team deemed the feature unsuitable for Nightreign's design.
To maintain the integrity of the original Elden Ring, Nightreign features a separate narrative. It offers a distinct adventure with new challenges and encounters while preserving the signature atmosphere and complexity of the Elden Ring world.
